Picture yourself, but using the third person singular, engaged in a job or activity that you enjoy.  Begin with the sentence, “It was a pleasure to _____________.”  (Fill in the blank with a verb).  Provide three specific details and incorporate imaginative figurative language in your description.

Read Fahrenheit 451 to page 24 to “opened his mouth…” Identify one comparison, then make an annotated list of at least four parallel contrasts of Clarisse and Mildred using the specific text to demonstrate telling imagery that reinforces your observations.

Thursday October 6 (A) Friday, October 7 (B,F)
Vocabulary Test (50 points) on the 24 Fahrenheit 451 words. Know definition and word forms.  Be able to create sentences that make the words’ meanings clear. 

Thursday, October 13 PLEASE NOTE EXTENDED DUE DATE FROM THE 11TH
Read Fahrenheit 451 to page 63 to “He turned and went out through the open door.”  Devise a six question reading quiz on the first 63 pages, constructing two “easy” two “medium” and two “difficult” questions.  Make sure that the questions help us think about important aspects of the text.  Any form or kind of question is fine.

Review the conversation Tony and Wes have about school in which Tony gives Wes advice. (pgs. 27-28) Write a poem, dialogue or letter of advice to someone younger than you, to yourself at a younger age, or to yourself beginning sophomore year.  Alternately you may recount some good advice you have once received and do well to remember.

Read the three student comparison/contrast essays, “Soccer:Nigeria and U.S.” by K.C. Osuji, “My Two Mashooganas” by Nicole Schwartzberg, and “Twilight” by Gowri Vijayakumar.  For the first two provide written responses to the questions at the end of the essays.  For “Twilight”, imagine you are the writer and create an outline that depicts the form and the content of your intended essay.

Prepare an outline for your comparison/contrast essay

Bring  three copies of your preliminary draft for peer editing or be able to share it on Google Drive.
