Upcoming Assignments

Thursday, January 5 (A Block) Friday, January 6 (B and F Blocks)
Browse through your designated list of poems from the letter of the alphabet (If absent, choose a letter from A-F) from the Poetry Out Loud website.

Print out (or, better yet, copy by hand) and annotate your favorite poem from your selection, then find another poem by the same poet that you also like.  Print out and annotate that one as well.

Monday, January 9
Read the six poems about being a certain age.  Write your own poem that creates a vivid encounter with what it feels like to be in the world at the age you choose.

Tuesday, January 10
Browse through the class of 2018’s student poems fromLexington High School’s online poetry anthology.  

1) Click on the left hand sidebar: VIDEO RESOURCES Advice and Inspiration from America's Top Poets
Written Responses:
 A. Summarize one of the pieces in the Advice section, and comment on its application to your writing.

B.  Choose one of the spoken pieces in the in Inspiration section.  Briefly discuss how the poet's recitation of the poem helps you to appreciate at least two of its specific qualities.

2)   Choose a poem to print out from a current LHS Student (from either the class of 2017 or 2018).  Under the poem write a 3-5 sentence response explaining your choice.

In-Class January 10
Browse through the ARCHIVES (at side bar)of class of 2018’s student poems fromLexington High School’s online poetry anthology.  Choose one poem that provides inspiration for your own writing.  Cite the name of the poet, the year of graduation and copy the poem, writing it out by hand.  Write a 3-5 sentence explanation of what qualities you find in the poem.
